almost all done

We are on the home stretch.  No more Evaluations!!!!!!! well kinda.
All that's left on our list is Bryant's IEP meeting with the school system.  That date is tbd.
I was also able to get his Pediatric Neurology appointment on the calendar for January 2nd.  Halleluiah!

Bryant had his 1 year OT re-evaluation yesterday.  Boy, oh Boy, he has come such a long way in a year.  Brittany says he has made great progress and has done very well at meeting his goals.  This is kind of hard to understand without looking at the paperwork, but basically in order for Bryant to pass and potentially exit OT he must be at 50%.  Based on Brittany's evaluation Bryant is performing at 37% (compared to 33-35 month olds).  He is close but still has things to continue working on, plus specific challenges/goals that Nick and I have for him.

Bryant had his speech evaluation for private therapy this morning before school.  He did so well!  Miss Melanie works at Building Blocks where Bryant receives OT.  He knows her and interacts with her so I knew this evaluation would be easy breezy for him.  She said he sat in his chair the whole time during the evaluation and did so well for her (50 minutes).  She tested his vocabulary and his articulation.  There where two tests for vocabulary; receptive and expressive language.  The average test score range is 85-115.  Bryant scored a 95 for expressive language and a 98 for receptive.  He did so great!  The test for articulation has the same score range.  He scored a 79 which is below average.  I knew his articulation score would be below average, but for it to be that close to the average rage was shocking.  B is a superstar!  He is doing so, so well.  I think school is helping so, so much.  Plus, all the work his speech therapist, Miss Tawanda, has done with him to get him to this point.  Well, and I cannot leave out that he has an awesome mommy and daddy :)

Melanie will provide us with a full evaluation report so we can see where his weakness are...what sounds he has the most trouble with and put a game plan together to get him on track.  She recommends seeing him once a week for 1 hour. So, once we understand what the school will offer him we will make our decision about private therapy.

Bryant also had his Physical therapy evaluation after school today.  I didn't see it going too bad or being shocked by anything as I know what his abilities are.  There is nothing wrong with him and he has no trouble keeping up with other kids his age.  He is just a little behind developmentally.  For example, he can jump but he jumps like a 27 month old would jump.  Bryant is 35 months.  He also has trouble coordinating his body to move certain ways.  The same thing he experiences with his fine motor development.  We just need to find out what we can do for him to get his gross motor abilities up to speed.  He needs to be outside kicking and throwing balls around, running and jumping, etc.  Honestly, the skills are there, he just needs practice.  I'm not any good at sports so he got the wrong mom when it comes to doing anything athletic.  The therapist said he has pretty good core strength and his thighs are pretty bulky/toned for his size/stature.  Beef cake Bryant!  He does have low tone in his upper body...and like all other people one leg is longer than the other.  My main reason for going today was so they could help us correct his pigeon toes.  Unfortunately, I learned today that there isn't any specific therapy they can do to correct it.  You have to wait for them to pretty much grow out of it.  We will get a full report in about two weeks, but the therapist that evaluated him today did say he would benefit from therapy, but not doing it would be ok too.  It's pretty much our own judgement call.

We are just going to wait and see...

Hey, have you thought about gymnastics or karate instead of physical therapy? Just a thought.
